The categories are organized by dividing the primary subject, The Self, into 27 top categories. The top categories are divided by up to six secondary subjects: Unhappiness, Satisfaction, Happiness, Nirvana, Parinirvana and Selflessness. The primary and secondary subjects divide the categories into 257 topics grouped by subject. The primary and  secondary subjects were originally written as their own separate books.
